LEAVE NO TRACE BRIGHTON are working with Brighton based film maker Daniel Satchell, to tell the story of how our grass roots community action group became aware of the destructive impact that large scale industrial fishing practices have on our coastal and ocean environment.
The (yet untitled) film, due for release in autumn 2021, is a journey of discovery – beginning with the beach cleaning comminity finding vast amounts of fishing line and net washed up on Brighton Seafront, to the unseen destruction caused by bottom trawling and supertrawlers operating in the Channel.
Along the way we’ll be meeting and discussing the issues surrounding ghost gear and industrial fishing practices with front line campaigners, scientists and experts in marine biology and conservation, to fully understand the link between conservation and climate change, and to find out what action we need to take now to stop the destruction of marine biodiversity and fish stocks, and to protect our seas and oceans for future generations.
In the run up to release in autumn 2021, we will be releasing snippets from our interviews with experts in the field. The first snippet is from our interview with Greenpeace Oceans Campaigner Chris Thorne, who explained why Greenpeace decided to take direct action to protect Offshore Brighton MPA (Marine Protected Area) back in February this year.
