Leave No Trace Brighton crew and Sea Lanes management will be on the beach behind Sea Lanes with all the equipment you will need to get involved – no need to book or reserve a space, we’ll have plenty of equipment for everyone.

We are a group of local beach lovers that are campaigning to raise awareness and action to protect our beaches and green spaces. Our aims to educate, encourage and empower individuals communities and businesses to reduce, recycle or properly dispose rubbish so our beaches, green spaces and seas can be clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy.

LOTS going on behind the scenes this summer at Lea

Thanks to the 40+ members of the Brighton communit

Thanks to the 40+ members of the Brighton community who turned up for Sunday’s Leave No Trace Brighton X @sealanesbtn community beach clean!

Together we cleared around 29KG’s of rubbish and plastic pollution from the seafront, making a real impact on the health of our coast.

Big thanks to @woodandcoaluk for supporting us and treating our volunteers to ice cream afterward! 🍦💙

REPOST: Early Sunday morning beach clean

We found:
- beer bottle tops
- champagne corks
- shattered Scottish whiskey bottle
- crisp packets
- the corners of sweet packets (the tiny bit you tear off)
- plastic cups
- fishing tackle
- ropes
- shoe laces
- one shoe
- cigarette butts
- the brush bit of a paintbrush
- tent pegs
- industrial plastic ties
- lots of random hard plastics
- and much more…

And this was after a very rainy and windy Saturday so the beach would have been emptier…

Please put all you rubbish in the bins or even better take it home with you

Beach cleans rapidly and dramatically reduce plastic fragments released into the environment, according to the first scientific evidence of its kind.
Experts from Norce, one of Norway’s largest research organisations, found that within a year of volunteers removing bottles, bags and other large pieces of plastic from the shore of an island near Bergen, the amount of microplastic on land and in the water fell by 99.5%.

Yesterday, Leave No Trace Brighton filmmaker @danielsatch visited a port in Holland, where he witnessed two Supertrawlers docked alongside smaller vessels.
.
The overwhelming size of these industrial ships that often operate in the Channel, starkly illustrates the scale of their impact on our oceans, a subject we are exploring and raising awareness of in our upcoming film about the fishing line and net found washed-up on Brighton seafront - stay posted for film release dates and information.

Incredible and brave work from Dan, who I understand had to leave the port swiftly, after being questioned about the nature of his filming.

Our next @sealanesbtn community beach clean will be THIS Sunday, the 25th August!

We’ll be meeting on the beach in front of Sea Lanes at 9:30am - no need to book or reserve a spot, we have plenty of equipment to go around.

As a thank-you for helping to protect and preserve the health of Brighton’s coastal and ocean environment, Wood & Coal will be offering all beach cleaners joining us for a full shift a free 99 ice cream 🍦.

That’s the last interview for our (as yet untitl

That’s the last interview for our (as yet untitled) LNTB short film about the fishing line and net/ghost gear we find washed-up on Brighton seafront, in the bag! …and the most challenging to date, weather and location-wise, ah @danielsatch ?!

Huge thanks to @sussex_dolphin_project ‘s MD, Thea Taylor for your patience whilst we battled to film and record sound in gusting wind, rain, with port locks opening, boats manoeuvring and random drill based dock maintenance!!

A few more weeks of editing and we should be in a position to release what we hope will be an informative and impactful film, into the world. Please do stay tuned for info.

You won’t be reading any news reports today about the ‘state of Brighton seafront, after PRIDE’, because of the efforts of an ARMY of incredible volunteers who joined @brightonhovecc Tidy-Up Team, for the Big Pride Beach Clean! @brightonprideofficial this morning!
.
We dropped down to get involved at 7:30am and the beach was already in great shape, I only managed to collect half a bag of rubbish (in the two hours I was beach cleaning!)
.
It would be interesting to know how many KG’s of rubbish was collected and cleared (I shall ask the question tomorrow!) but, what an incredible job. Huge thanks to the Tidy Up Team and all the volunteers who got involved! 🙏🤩
